“Like A Radio” is the title of Pat Waters’ new EP (5 songs). Singer / songwriter from Bridgeport TX, Pat is not a rookie when it comes to music. This can be seen as we look back over his long career as a professional singer, having recorded nine albums, which have all been pretty successful in the U.S.A, as well as the rest of the world. He has shared the stage with some of the great names of country such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Bush, Gary Stewart, John Conlee, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Keith Whitley and Gary P. Nunn, just to mention a few, and has received a number of awards also here in Europe. Like almost all new-traditionalist Texans, Waters plays a type of country music, certainly influenced by the great names of the past, but he is inspired mainly by the style of George Strait, a giant with which each country musician, especially those born in the Lone Star State, must relate to in some way. Therefore “Like A Radio” pays a fitting tribute to “King George”, but this is definitely an advantage, and not a fault, for any country music Cd. Recorded at Skaggs Place Studios in Hendersinville TX and mixed in Austin, “Like a Radio” meanders through five songs (“Crazy That Way”, “You Can’t Trust A Memory”, the title track “Like A Radio”, “Everybody Have a Good Time” and “Hey Paula”), all very traditional country style, modern enough, but far from the current Nashville style. My favourite song is “Like A Radio”, but all the songs are really very enjoyable to listen to, thanks to Pat’s beautiful voice. A great appetizer whilst we wait for Pat Waters’ new album.
