Officially presented to the public at the 2017 Tamworth Music Festival,(the largest festival devoted to country music, that takes place in Australia ), “Guitars & Cigars” is El Cosgrove’s debut recording, a young redheaded singer / songwriter, who grew up in rural Queensland. 5 songs, all written by El, who, despite the very young age, exhibits a remarkable musical maturity. This is almost a talent taken for granted, for a country singer, her voice is beautiful, brilliant, and at the same time particular, perfect for songs such as the opening track “Nobody’s Gettin’ Out Alive”; arrangements, which are very now-Nashville.Therefore, it seems only very normal that a singer of her age feels artistically closer to Carrie Underwood rather than to Dolly Parton.“Rebel Girl”, the second track from “Guitars & Cigars”, on the other hand is a very country sounding song, which in many ways reminds us of Kacey Musgraves, for the way she sings and the style of the lyrics. “The Unfamiliar”, track number 3, was chosen as a single, although I personally prefer the title track “Guitars & Cigars”. The EP closes with “I Don’t Think So”, probably the song that best summarizes all her artistic qualities, and shows us how this young cowgirl from Queensland sees country music. The Cd is produced by Matt Fell, along with Glen Hannah on guitars, Josh Schuberth on drums, Luke Moller on the violin and Matt Fell on bass and all other instruments. Good Cd to listen to, put together very professionally. A good visiting card for the future. All we can do now is wait for her first real debut album. (Gianluca Sitta)
