Era dal 2017 con Something’s Going On che Trace Adkins non pubblicava un nuovo cd. In marzo era uscito il singolo Better Off che lasciava presagire qualche news, ma poi niente fino alla fine dell’estate, quando Trace annunciava per ottobre l’uscita di un E.P. intitolato Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy. Prodotto da Bart Butler e Mickey Jack Cones, il dischetto (in uscita il 16 ottobre) appare ad un primo ascolto più che dignitoso ma soprattutto ha il grande pregio di non voler arrivare a tutti i costi ai canonici 10/12 brani per poter essere poi venduto come un album completo. Evidentemente, per vari motivi, i brani pronti erano quelli e quelli sono stati incisi e pubblicati. Fra questi oltre al già citato Better Off , segnaliamo Mind on Fishin’ nel cui video appare anche T. Graham Brown e Big scritto dai Brothers Osborne. “It was great to work with Bart and Mickey Jack on these handpicked songs from some of my favorite writers,” ha dichiarato recentemente Adkins. “I’m really proud of these songs and looking forward to what’s to come”.
