16 brani, fra cui una cover di Merle Haggard intitolata Footlights, fanno dell’ottavo album in studio di Joe Nichols, uno dei prodotti più freschi di quest’autunno. Previsto in uscita per i primi di ottobre, Crickets (Red Bow Records) segna il ritorno sulla scena da parte di questo cantante che, da un paio di anni, aveva abbandonato l’attività musicale per dedicarsi al ruolo di padre a tempo pieno. Preceduto dal singolo Sunny and 75 ( scritto da Michael Dulaney, Jason Sellers e Paul Jenkins) questo cd vede alternarsi dietro la consolle alcuni dei migliori producers di Nashville. Mickey Jack Cones, Derek George e Tony Brown fanno sentire il loro apporto e il risultato è piuttosto brillante ed omogeneo anche grazie alla voce di Nichols che riesce sempre ad essere “sul pezzo”. Curiosa la scelta del titolo. Finite le registrazioni e senza un titolo definitivo, si optò per crickets (grilli) perchè era la parola che più ricorreva nelle varie canzoni e perchè proprio come grilli quasi tutte le 16 canzoni mantengono una forte impronta “earthy and organic”.

Set for release in early October, “Crickets” (Red Bow Records) marks the return to the scene of this singer, who for a couple of years, had abandoned the music business to devote himself to the role of full-time father. Preceded by the single “Sunny and 75” (written by Michael Dulaney, Jason Sellers and Paul Jenkins) this CD sees some of the best producers in Nashville in action. Mickey Jack Cones, Derek George and Tony Brown’s contributions are felt and the result is quite amazing thanks also to the voice of Nichols who always manages to be “on track”. A curious choice of title. Finished with the recordings and without a title, they opted for “Crickets” because it was the word that recurred the most in the various songs and because, just like almost all of the 16 songs they maintain a strong “earthy and organic” sound.
